Organize IMD Sangeeth Day in your location!

Bring the spirit of Indian classical music and dance to your community.

IMD Sangeeth Day is a unique global celebration dedicated to Indian classical music and dance — connecting students, teachers, performers, and rasikas across cities and countries through a shared day of performance and appreciation.

Why organize a local Sangeeth Day?

As a local coordinator, you will:

  • Create a platform for artists and students in your region
  • Strengthen your local arts community
  • Celebrate and honor gurus and teachers
  • Connect your city to a global network of Sangeeth Day celebrations

Whether you organize a small gathering or a large multi-venue celebration, every chapter contributes to a larger global movement.

What does a coordinator do?

Organizing Sangeeth Day in your location is simple and flexible. You can:

  • Identify and secure a venue (school, temple, auditorium, park, or community space)
  • Invite students, teachers, and performers to participate
  • Coordinate a schedule of performances
  • Promote the event locally
  • Ensure each performer has the opportunity to acknowledge their guru
  • Coordinate with IMD Foundation for guidelines and to list your Sangeeth Day events in our website and social media.

You have the freedom to shape the event in a way that reflects your local community.

Who can participate?

IMD Sangeeth Day is open to:

  • Students of Indian classical music and dance
  • Teachers and gurus
  • Professional and amateur performers
  • Cultural organizations and schools
  • Volunteers and community supporters

All are welcome — performers, participants, and audiences alike.

All performers and volunteers will receive an IMD Foundation Participation Certificate in appreciation of their dedication and contribution to Sangeeth Day.

What makes this event special?

🌍 Global yet local — many cities, one shared celebration

🎶 Accessible — free for all to participate

🙏 Guru recognition — honoring the tradition of teaching and lineage

🎭 Diverse expressions — vocal, instrumental, and dance

6 Key Steps to Organizing Sangeeth Day

(1) Public Venue: Sangeeth Day must be organized at a public venue that is open to all. Do not host the event in private spaces such as residences or business offices. The goal is community participation.

(2) Zero or Low Budget: Keep the Sangeeth Day budget as close to zero as possible. Focus on simplicity and community collaboration rather than production scale. (See more details below.)

(3) Get Volunteers: Volunteers are essential to the smooth running of Sangeeth Day. You will need support for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Decorating the venue (banners, festoons, etc.)
  • Managing the welcome desk
  • Promoting the event in the community
  • Getting sponsors to cover some expenses
  • Helping the guests
  • Coordinating and lining up performers
  • Handling basic audio and lighting
  • Serving as the emcee (MC)
  • Cleaning up the venue after the event
(4) Line Up Performers: Focus on bringing together artists, students, and teachers to perform. As Sangeeth Day is a celebratory, community-driven initiative to promote Indian classical music and dance, performers are encouraged to participate voluntarily.

  • Reach out to teachers and schools of Indian classical music and dance.
  • Typically, each performer or group is allotted about 10 minutes.
  • For a 3-hour event, aim for 15–20 performances.
  • Encourage group performances to include more participants without extending the event duration.
(5) Promote extensively: Actively promote Sangeeth Day within your community and across multiple channels:

  • Social media: Facebook, Instagram, X
  • WhatsApp groups
  • Email outreach
  • Flyers and posters
  • Local media: newspapers, magazines, radio stations, and TV channels
Strong local promotion is key to building awareness and participation.

(6) Present it well: Create a warm, respectful, and well-organized experience:

  • Start and end on time
  • Ensure smooth transitions between performances
  • Arrange a simple stage or designated performance area
  • Test basic audio equipment in advance (if used)
  • Acknowledge performers, teachers, and gurus appropriately
  • Keep the atmosphere welcoming and focused on the art
A thoughtfully presented event, even if simple, leaves a lasting impression.

Funds for Basic Expenses

Strive to organize Sangeeth Day at zero cost. Here’s how:

(1) Secure a Free Public Venue: Look for venues that can be used at no cost. If the venue includes basic audio equipment, that’s a bonus.

Examples:
  • Temple community halls
  • Performance spaces in public libraries or museums
  • Community spaces in parks
  • School auditoriums or halls
  • Open public spaces
Sangeeth Day is designed to be simple and community-driven. Since performers and venues collaborate voluntarily, there is no need for large production teams or complex logistics. However, some coordination and promotion effort—through volunteers or in-kind support—is essential, especially in the early stages.

(2) Check permits and insurance requirements: Check with local government if you need any permits or insurances for public venues.

(3) Promote Sangeeth Day widely: Public awareness is crucial.

Engage:

  • Local businesses and media partners
  • Music and dance schools
  • Cultural organizations and associations
  • Respected artists and community leaders
You can also collaborate with local institutions to spread the word through websites, newsletters, and community networks.

Smart funding

You can also raise small donations to help cover basic Sangeeth Day expenses.

  • Donations should be made online or by check only—please avoid cash donations.
  • IMD Foundation will reimburse eligible expenses, up to the total donations received for your venue.
  • Just make sure to keep all purchase or payment receipts for reimbursement.
  • Since IMD Foundation is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all donations are tax-deductible.

You can also welcome in-kind contributions, such as water bottles, snacks, and other simple essentials.
