Nivedita ShivRaj is an award-winning carnatic music professional and hails from a family of musicians. She plays the ancient Indian instrument veena. She has been performing, composing and teaching carnatic music for over 30 years. Nivedita has presented concerts in many prestigious venues including the Lincoln Center (New York), Brooklyn Museum (New York) and Central Park Summer Stage (New York). Nivedita is also a trained Bharathanatyam (South Indian classical dance) dancer. She is the Artistic Director of RagaChitra Fine Arts as well as the Carnatic-jazz band Charanams which won the WNYC Battle of the Boroughs contest in 2011. She has presented concerts and lecture demonstrations in many public schools and colleges. Hundreds of students from the USA, UK, Australia, India and other countries learn carnatic music from Nivedita.
