Countries like China and Egypt have longer records of history and culture. The Catalogue Général des Antiquités Égyptiennes du Musée du Caire published recently by the Egyptian Government gives accurate descriptions and pictures of musical instruments 4000 years old, and indications of a musical notation which point to an art at a high stage of development.
